Due to COVID-19 concerns, this event has been postponed. The Guild will attempt to reschedule and, if that happens, registration will be re-opened. A two day seminar by noted design authority George Walker. George Walker has been a furniture builder for over 30 years and has done extensive research on the world of pre-industrial design. He has published three books; By “Hand and By Eye”, “By Hound & Eye” and “Truth to Tools”. He has produced several “Lie-Nielsen” videos; “Unlocking the Secrets of Traditional Design” and “Unlocking the Secrets of Mouldings”. He has written for “Mortise & Tenon”, “American Period Furniture” and “Fine Woodworking” Magazines. He also authors the Popular Woodworking Column, “Design Matters”
This 2 Day seminar also includes lunch on both days.

Attendees should bring a sketch pad, Plain white spiral bound artists pad 9″X12″ or 12″X18″. Graph paper is also acceptable. Two (2) pair of dividers of different sizes. A compass. A 45 degree drafting triangle. A straight edge at least 12″ long. Pencils and eraser

Day one; Focus will be on basic proportional theory. We will explore techniques used by traditional artisans to design furniture. A few drawing exercises will be used to develop your eye. Don’t be shy if you lack the ability to draw, this is about learning to see not draw!
Day two; We will explore forms and achieving unity in a form with proportions. We will look at curvature and how to manipulate light and shadow. Also we will touch on moldings and ornamentation and their uses to enhance a design.
