Jay Noffsinger, assisted by Adam Conners, detailed the building of a spice cabinet and the tools he used to do the string inlay work on the front. Jay saw an article in Fine Woodworking magazine that he got at the Woodworking Show many years ago and went on to learn his woodworking skills at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking.

Monthly Meeting Tool Sale
We are continuing a Sale Area at the Guild meetings. A $5 fee gives you table space to sell up to 6 of your un-needed shop items that are still in usable condition in the time before the main meeting starts. From there on, you handle the sale with fellow members. Setup as early as 6 pm.

NOTICE
Please don’t drop off materials at the Shop or Shed without notification
There have been several instances where members or others have dropped off apparently unwanted tools and/or materials at the Faust Park Shop and at the Shed without proper notifications.
Please note that any dropoffs should first be run by David Gronefeld, Wayne Humphrey, Tom Tierney, or Bob Baird so that they can determine what the final disposition should be. Any items dropped off without notification are subject to being discarded as trash or fuel for the wood stove.

Dan Lender was surprised to open the latest copy of Wood magazine and see a picture of a step stool that he made for his niece, 28 months after he had submitted it.
|
|
|
|
|
Vickie Berry used a piece of rock maple that she won at the last meeting’s raffle to make several charcuterie boards, some with cheese cutters from a Rockler class.
|
|
|
|
Vickie also made the charcuterie board above with the edge pour of resin around a piece of oak that was gifted to her from Dave Gronefeld‘s father’s property.
|
|
|
|
Eric Morris collects and restores old tools and likes to build customized wooden boxes to them in.
|
|
|
|
|
Brad Bernhard was inspired by a Mike Stoll Komiko leaf pattern feature in Fine Woodworking magazine and built this cabinet.
|
|
|
|
Brad used quartersawn white oak for most of the cabinet, with a sycamore drawer front and basswood for the pattern inlay.
|
|
|
|
|
Brian Ellison brought in an interesting cross section of a Mahogony branch that looked like a gear.
|
|
|
|
Brian also brought in a Dubby crosscut sled that he has been using for ages (from the ’80’s)– very safe, simple, and easy to use.
|
|
|
|
|
Keith Lissant brought in a witch puzzle that he cut out with his scroll saw. This Halloween project has about 10 or 12 pieces and was destined for the Faust Park Art Fair.
|
|
|
|
|
Bob Kastigar didn’t like the prices and availability of the inlay project tools, so he used his skills as a toolmaker to make his own custom-built units to fit his needs.
|
|
|
|
|
Steve Boykin turns pens and pencils, but he also really likes to carve. So much so that he is planning to teach a wood carving class in the near future. Watch for it on the SLWG Website.
|

Tom Tierney’s grandson is busy building a cheeseburger that is one of the stacking toys.

We have a new fire truck design ready to build and paint.
|
|
|
Toys are built the first and third Fridays in the shop from 10 to 2. All skill levels are welcome to help.

HSH Table Build Community Outreach
|

August Recap:
– Monthly Deliveries: 18 tables were delivered in August (4 dinette tables, 13 end/sofa-server tables, and 1 bookcase).
– Year-to-Date Progress: We delivered 103 tables in the first 5 months of the fiscal year, reaching 62.4% of our annual goal of 165 tables.
-Average Monthly Deliveries: 20.4 tables.
– Program Total: 674 tables have been donated since the program began.
Member Contribution Highlights:
– Current Year: 20 members have built tables, with 10 members contributing 5+ tables, 2 contributing 10+, and 1 contributing 15+.
– Program History: 48 members have participated in the program since its inception.
Other News and Updates:
– We will attempt to hold a Shop/Shed Workday again in September.
– We plan to pick up wood from Jay at the end of September.
– Supply update: Only 2 small table kits remain in the shed, and the pile of individual boards reduced noticeably during the month.
– The HSH inventory of Guild tables at the end of August was down to 8 small end tables.

- To participate in the Workshop Safety Class or use the shop, you must have paid the current year Guild dues and have your current membership card with appropriate marking.
- To use the Guild Workshop during open hours, you must have passed a Workshop Safety Class. First time Safety Class is $20. Refresher attendance is FREE!
- No one below the age of 16 is allowed in the shop

Grace Period
If a membership lapses, a former member can rejoin the guild within 12 months of expiration without having to retake the $20 Shop Safety Class. After 12 months have passed, the individual will be required to Renew membership and retake the $20 safety class.

A Basic Membership entitles the member to four (4) uses of the Guild Shop during the membership year.
A Shop Membership entitles the member to unlimited use of the shop during Open Shop hours.

If you are a current or retired Boeing employee you can contribute to the St. Louis Woodworker’s guild through the Boeing Gift Match program. The guild is now an approved charitable organization with the Boeing program. As an employee participant, your donation of $25.00 USD or more or the equivalent volunteer hours of 25 hours or more will be matched 1:1 by Boeing. The maximum individual contribution is $6,000.00 or 6,000 volunteer hours. Your contribution is tax deductible as long as you follow three simple steps:
Step 1: Eligible Boeing employees or retirees first make a contribution directly to the guild
Step 2: After making your donation go to Total Access and click on My Community Giving – GIVE – Gift Match on the Boeing Gift Match page.
Step 3: Register your donation whether it’s monetary or volunteer hours and select The St. Louis Woodworker’s Guild and enter the total amount and the date of the contribution.
