More details to come!!!
Gary Schmidt brought in two benches, one from when he was in school in the early ’70s and the other that he built 30 years later.
In his more recent version, he went for flush plugs and a cherry inlay in quarter-sawn sycamore base material.
Joe Turner used his CNC machine to cut acrylic Olympic circles.
Wayne Humphrey went for a fun project with a scroll saw segmented piece.
Primary materials consisted of walnut and poplar wood.
Two of our Fundamentals Class grads, Syma Waxman and Bill Brougham, were recognized for the Shaker table projects that they worked on over several months of class time. Nice outcomes!!
Alan Brown responded to a family request for a 42-car capacity car carrier for Matchbox Cars.
He used a base plywood with veneer for the carrier and his CNC for the truck and wheels. He applied black leather to make the tires more realistic.
John Markiel brought in this box that he made for his wife’s circular knitting needles. He made the box using one walnut board, wrapping it around for a continuous grain pattern.
John also brought in a simple jig for turning a router table into a jointer. All you need is a straight board and a couple of clamps!!
David Gronefeld received a signed plaque of appreciation from participants in the Queeny Park Summer Camp.
Charles Schrock brought in this unique lidded box that he made from the center of a cactus, bubinga, and a copper top.
My mission style chest of drawers#2 is complete along with the bed, nightstand, and the 1st chest-of-drawers. I used QSWO for the primary wood and poplar wood for the secondary wood. All the dovetails were cut using a table saw jig. The glue-up for the case was a 30 min. event. The drawers are supported on undermount slides. The finish is dye, shellac, gel stain, shellac, and 3 coats of wb lacquer, which were applied throughout the assembly build. My wife likes radical medullary rays. The Cynthia Collection is now complete. This journey was fun. It is an original design inspired by many before me. Thanks for looking.

Christmas Toy Update
The elves have been busy and we now have built more than 1200 toys so far this year.
Several new designs have been added to give variety to the builders.
If you know of an organization that could use some toys during the holiday season, let us know. We should be able to provide them with a quantity of toys.
Contact Wayne Humphrey, Vickie Berry or anyone else you know that builds toys.

Toy Committee Update
Toy production moves along, but we need more. We had a good selection of toys collected at the August meeting, but our hospital partners are starting to increase their requests and our inventory of toys in the shed is starting to go down.
We have had a few toys donated that need to be reworked due to quality issues. They will be brought to this month’s meeting for distribution to helpers who will fix them — pick up a few and help out the toy program.
Thank you to all who have built toys and contributed to this important program.

If you are a current or retired Boeing employee you can now contribute to the St. Louis Woodworker’s guild through the Boeing Gift Match program. The guild is now an approved charitable organization with the Boeing program. As an employee participant, your donation of $25.00 USD or more or the equivalent volunteer hours of 25 hours or more will be matched 1:1 by Boeing. The maximum individual contribution is $6,000.00 or 6,000 volunteer hours. Your contribution is tax deductible as long as you follow three simple steps:
Step 1: Eligible Boeing employees or retirees first make a contribution directly to the guild
Step 2: After making your donation go to Total Access and click on My Community Giving – GIVE – Gift Match on the Boeing Gift Match page.
Step 3: Register your donation whether it’s monetary or volunteer hours and select The St. Louis Woodworker’s Guild and enter the total amount and the date of the contribution.
It’s that easy, you get a great tax break and it benefits the guild directly. If you have any questions, please email Brian Ellison at president@slwg.org and if I don’t know the answer, I will try to find it for you.
