Make a Krenov Style Hand Plane
Instructor: Mike Sistek
Description: Have you ever experienced the satisfaction of using a finely tuned, hand-made wooden plane
that was made to fit into your hand? Wooden planes with their extra-thick blade and fine throat
openings are a joy to use. Students will build a Krenov-styled wooden hand plane just like the planes
James Krenov made at the College of the Redwoods. The plane style taught in the class will be a
wooden miter or shooting board plane, but the techniques learned can be used to make a smoother,
jack or jointer plane as well. Students will also learn how to properly sharpen the blade, set the blade
in the plane and use their completed plane.
