Instructor: Mike Sistek
Description: Finishing with Oil and Shellac. Students will learn how to prepare wood to take an oil or shellac finish. This will include proper scraping and sanding techniques in order to ensure a smooth finish. We will discuss how oil and shellac work with open, semi-open and closed grain woods as well as how to deal with the common problems associated with oil or shellac finishes.
We will go over pre-conditioners, sealers and grain pore fillers. Students will also learn how to hand rub finishes to include French polishing. If time permits, we will also discuss tints and dyes to use with oils and shellac.
