The Guild’s annual picnic was held last Saturday at Shaw Nature Preserve. Tours of one of the original homes on the property were provided and Dale Dufer demonstrated how he makes furniture from bush honeysuckle.

Honeysuckle is as dense as many popular hardwoods, has high BTU value and is very stable if the bark is left on. It is an invasive species that many areas are trying to remove.
The house has what appeared to be beautiful burl doors but it turned out to save money they were painted. Whoever did it did a great job.

About 60 members and guests attended, had lunch, and enjoyed the nice weather and gentle breeze blowing through the area.
